Animal Welfare Capacity and Guidelines

Capacity building and effective animal welfare guidelines and legislation are essential elements critical to improving the lives of captive, wild animals. These frameworks focus on building competency and capability within institutions and individuals thus facilitating the provision of the highest-quality of care, as well as setting clearly defined standards for the ethical treatment of captive animals. With growing societal interests focused on respecting and protecting wild animals, many local, regional and/or federal agencies have implemented measures to protect captive animal welfare. Despite this, in many places there remains a deficit in basic guidelines and legislation addressing the humane treatment of animals, or where such measures are in place, they’re often outdated and inadequate.

Wild Welfare US works worldwide with government officials, captive animal facility leadership, and relevant animal protection groups to advise on and help develop legislation which fully supports the establishment of long-term improvements to animal welfare.

Wild Welfare US’ supports, develops, and teaches best practices in animal care and management. We review current animal welfare literature and practices, incorporate advancements into our trainings, and through our global collaborations stay current in this dynamic space of global captive animal welfare.
