Why our partners are so important to us

Wild Welfare US is deeply grateful to all our partners and donors, including our sister organization Wild Welfare (based in UK). Without this support and collaboration, we would not be able to carry out our work. We rely on your generosity to help fund and expand our global projects, which include conducting welfare assessments in wildlife facilities worldwide, producing and presenting educational materials on animal care and welfare, and training animal management and care staff to identify and correct inappropriate animal welfare practices and to apply the best animal welfare practices.

“Thank you! With your support, we envision a world where every captive animal in the world is able to thrive and live a good life. We do this by working with dedicated partners through positive and collaborative welfare capacity and relationship building, and by uniting welfare organizations and captive wildlife facilities in providing expert, practical, and sustainable solutions to improve animal welfare. With your help, our goal of promoting the highest standards of animal care and welfare is within reach! Thank you again for your partnership in this goal.”

Kristin L. Vehrs, Wild Welfare US President of the Board of Directors

“Thanks for supporting Wild Welfare US!  I love our collaborative approach to achieving our mission and vision and we cannot do this important work without our partners, supporters, and donors. With your help we strive to assure that all animals living in zoos, aquariums, sanctuaries, and rescue centers can thrive and live a good life. We build constructive, respectful relationships to empower our colleagues in the field by deepening their understanding and knowledge of animals’ needs. From this knowledge comes the insight and vision we use to build upon educational opportunities that further assist them in the development and implementation of strategies resulting long-term, sustainable changes that yield positive differences in the lives of animals in captivity.”

How Working with captive wildlife facilities makes a difference

As an organization deeply integrated into the zoological, aquarium, and sanctuary communities, and with strong connections throughout the animal welfare sector, we take a professional approach to all our work. We recognize that each wildlife facility is unique, with varying levels of expertise, resources, and capacity and therefore approach each situation with compassion and awareness. Animal care professionals play a critical role in driving animal welfare improvements but many operate without proper training and education.  We stand ready to respond where ever there’s a need – the captive animal welfare challenge is considerable and will remain complicated. By bringing together diverse skills, perspectives, networks, and resources, we can make a tangible difference driving positive change for captive wild animal welfare around the world, and collectively help change minds, attitudes, and practices.

Supporting Wild Welfare US Makes a Difference

Wild Welfare US is at the forefront of captive animal welfare, offering support to virtually any captive wild animal facility across the globe including zoos, aquariums, rescue centers, and sanctuaries.  We provide support, training, and ongoing advice to animal care staff, managers and directors, and wildlife veterinarians. We are always looking for new donors and partners to help support our global projects.

How Does Your Donation Help?

Raise Awareness

Your support allows us to continue with our work to improve global animal welfare in any facility where captive wild animals live. By raising awareness and uniting those interested in enhancing captive animal welfare, we begin to see a shift.  Our independent welfare evaluations and work with professional membership organizations creates a multitude of platforms for the discussion of captive animal welfare concerns and how to address them.

Create Resources & Build Capacity

Improving animal welfare must happen at all levels of animal care – from facility directors and managers to daily caretakers.  Wild Welfare US engages EVERYONE at a facility to create positive outcomes for animals.  We work with decision-makers to deepen their understanding of what enables animals to thrive, and we work one-on-one with caregivers because they are the first line of influence to change the quality of care an animal receives each day! This yields immediate, positive change for animals as longer-range goals, that require additional resources, are pursued. Your support allows us to provide expert resources and practical, individualized guidance for immediate and long-term enhancements to animal care, veterinary programs, & behavioral management.

Inspire Change

Your support enables us to assess, advise and train wildlife facilities and their staff around the world. Our compassionate, empathy-based approach is helping to create an understanding and awareness of what animals need to thrive.  Once there is awareness, we are able to move forward with building practical skills that directly influence positive changes for captive animals.  This happens at individual facilities, at the national level such as within a professional organization, and we are beginning to see regional shifts in attitudes about what it means to provide for the optimal care and welfare of captive animals!
